Creating a Content Map (Create 1.1.2)

Content mapping can be useful for online learners who are primarily visual learners.  It can help students to see how each of the topics covered in class work alongside one another to culminate together to achieve the goals of the course.  Content mapping can be especially useful in disciplines such as science and history as students can visualize the relationships being studied.  An English teacher could also use content mapping to map out the relationships between characters in a literary work or how many different texts explore similar themes.

When a teacher uses a content map to facilitate learning, the map should be clean and simple enough that students will not feel lost in an abyss.
