Differentiation (Communicate 3.2.2)

Because students have different learning styles, teachers must work to create differentiated assignments and lessons that will align with the students' styles of learning.  Making a deliberate effort to deliver information in a way that a student can absorb it effectively is the job of the teacher.  In a traditional classroom, a teacher may seek to deliver information in several different ways: through visuals, audio, or kinesthetics.  It may seem that differentiating instruction and communication would be a challenge in a virtual classroom, but many times it can be made very simple through some of the many tools available on the web such as Prezi, FlipSnack, or Quizlet.

Quizlet is a tool to create online flash cards.  With this tool, teachers can create a set of flash cards and share it with students, or students can create flash cards themselves.  There are several different ways that they can view or print the cards, and the flash cards can be a valuable study tools.

It's not the job of the teacher to show off how much he knows his content; rather, it's the job of the teacher to be able to impart this knowledge and information to students.  Not every student will learn in the exact same way as the teacher, so the teacher must strive to find methods of delivery that will help the students be successful learners.  By providing differentiated instruction, too, students will become more adept at mastering content delivered through the different learning styles, which will be useful as students continue with their education.
