Newsletter (Communicate 3.2.1)

Teachers have access to so many communications tools on the web that it can become overwhelming.  When selecting a tool (or tools) to use, teachers should first determine the purpose of the communication and then choose a tool that has features that serve that purpose.  Online graphics and communication should be easy to understand and devoid of unnecessary clutter.  A few effective options available to teachers for communicating with students and stakeholders include Smore, Popplet, and good ol' email.

Smore is a simple way to create online flyers.  The software is simple and user-friendly.  There are practical options to customize a flyer and a variety of ways to share the flyer as well.  The free version of Smore has enough options to satisfy most educators, but there is a way to pay a nominal fee for more.

Another fun yet simple tool for educators to utilize is Popplet.  Popplet allows users to create online interactive bulletin boards.  These bulletin boards can include video, audio, photos, and of course text.  The design is clean and uncluttered, but still features options that teachers can use to personalize the look of the bulletin board.

With all of the tools available on the web, teachers may easily lose sight of one of the most effective methods of virtual communication with stakeholders: email.  Email is simple, easy to access, web-based, and doesn't require fancy flash players or a large amount of bandwidth.

To avoid monotony, instructors should try to use a variety of communication methods, and the ones they choose should fit the needs of the stakeholders.
